GPRN/NNC (AB) reaffirms commitment to reconciliation

DIMAPUR

The GPRN/NNC (AB) led by president S.S. Pongkhu Naga and general secretary V. Yepthomi convened an emergency meeting on Saturday with the council of kilonsers, collective leadership, regional presidents and cadres at the president’s residence.
In a statement issued by its MIP, the group said the meeting reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment” to the Naga reconciliation process under the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), which it described as the core aspiration of the Naga people. It said the group has participated in 16 official meetings under the FNR, the latest being hosted at Ungma village.
Meanwhile, GPRN/NNC (AB) alleged that on August 19, during the induction ceremony of the new general secretary at the president’s residence, Kitoho H. Zhimomi arrived with armed cadres in possession of pistols and fired shots as a threat to both the president and the general secretary. The group claimed that Kitoho and his men again surrounded the president’s residence at midnight on August 21, though the president was out of station at the time.
The statement alleged that Kitoho, who earlier served briefly as home kilonser, had been involved in financial misconduct and left the government when questioned. It claimed that he has since aligned with one Francis Kikon in attempts to destabilize the present government.
GPRN/NNC (AB) clarified that Kitoho was no longer affiliated with, nor authorized to represent the group in any capacity. It cautioned the public, markets and establishments not to engage with Kitoho or anyone claiming to represent the group without explicit consent from general secretary V. Yepthomi.
While stating that this was their final official statement, MIP also cautioned that any misuse or unauthorized use of the group’s name or authority would invite strict and immediate action.
