GPRN/NSCN Kuki Region backs Kitovi; urges unity for Naga solution

DIMAPUR, JUL 1 (NPN)

In a significant development, the Kuki Region led by GPRN/NSCN (Alezo-Neokpao) kilonser and member collective leadership (MCL) C. Singson, along with RAO Kuki Region Lenjakam Haokip, extended full support to N. Kitovi Zhimomi, ato kilonser of GPRN/NSCN and convener of the Working Committee (WC), NNPGs.
The endorsement was backed by over 80 members from the Kuki Region, including kilonsers, deputy kilonsers, tatars, the women wing, and Athibung command.
In a joint statement, C Singson and Lenjakam Haokip reiterated that Kitovi was the first signatory of the Agreed Position.
They emphasised that at this critical juncture in Naga history, Kitovi’s leadership as convener of the NNPGs was “critically necessary.”
While recognising and respecting the leadership of all Naga political entities, the Kuki national workers earnestly appealed to all leaders to prioritise the Indo-Naga political solution and not dwell on personal differences.
The statement further stressed that it was a momentous time for Naga civil societies, apex tribal bodies, Nagaland state government, Church, student organisations, and concerned citizens, both within and outside Nagaland, to engage with Naga political groups and assist in the discourse of convergence for a practical, honorable and acceptable political solution with the Government of India.
Reflecting on the historical involvement of the Kuki community in the Naga political movement, the signatories recalled that Lengjang Kuki was one of the signatories of the Naga Club’s memorandum to the Simon Commission on January 10, 1929, who advocated for the Nagas’ right to self-determination following the British withdrawal from India.
“This spirit of resilience, commitment, and determination guides the Indigenous Kuki community in Nagaland today,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the Kuki community in Nagaland, by the grace of God, has a shared purpose and vision with the Nagas.
They reaffirmed their continued active involvement and important role in the Indo-Naga peace process.
Reiterating their confidence in the Agreed Position signed on November 17, 2017, between the Government of India and WC, NNPGs, the Kuki Region said the agreement is entrenched in the Naga history, identity, and political rights.
It noted that based on this, extensive political negotiations took place, and the roadmap to honorable and acceptable political solution in the form of “Status Paper” was already in the public domain.
Appreciating the contributions of all Naga political leaders, both within and outside the NNPGs, towards finding an honourable and enduring political solution, the Kuki Region expressed concern that the personal differences within senior leaders have caused many splits.
However, it clarified that these were “non-ideological” differences and expressed optimism that all leaders agree that the Indo-Naga political solution, as and when announced, would be welcomed.
