GPRN/NSCN (U) warns against unauthorized tax collection

DIMAPUR: GPRN/NSCN (Unification) under the leadership of president, ‘gen.’ (Retd.) MB Neokpao Konyak and ato kilonser Alezo Venuh, through its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), has issued a public notification cautioning against unauthorized collection of taxes in the name of “Unification”.
In a press statement, the group stated that it had on several occasions clarified that there existed only one Naga nationalist organisation functioning under the nomenclature “Unification”, and expressed hope that any ambiguity surrounding the matter had already been dispelled among the public.
However, the group claimed that despite repeated clarifications, it had recently received “credible reports from dependable sources” that certain individuals and groups were allegedly collecting taxes and levies in the name of Unification in various commercial centres and regional areas.
It maintained that such activities were entirely unauthorized, misleading and amounted to misuse of the organisation’s name and authority.
In view of the development, GPRN/NSCN (U) cautioned all individuals and organisations against engaging in any form of collection under its name without proper authentication.
The group also reiterated that any tax paid without proper verification would be at the payer’s own risk and responsibility. It therefore advised the public to remain vigilant and verify authenticity by consulting or contacting the respective RAOs, Town Command or Regional Command.
Further, the group warned that any individual or entity found deliberately misrepresenting GPRN/NSCN (U) either for personal gain or to tarnish the organisation’s image would be held solely accountable for any consequences arising from such acts.
