The GST Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) meeting for Nagaland was held on February 25 under the chairmanship of Chief Commissioner of CGST and Customs, Guwahati Zone, in charge of the Northeast region, S.K. Sinha.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both Central and State GST departments along with representatives from trade and industry bodies, including the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), Young Indians (Yi) Nagaland Chapter, chartered accountants and tax practitioners.
The GRC meeting served as a platform to address taxpayer grievances and operational issues related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Members of the business community raised several concerns, including the need to increase tax exemption limits for Nagaland under the Composition Scheme and the Quarterly Returns Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme.
Other issues discussed included structural and policy matters such as the inclusion of petroleum products under GST to enable businesses to claim input tax credit on fuel, problems of illegal taxation faced by local businesses, and the need for greater awareness and outreach programmes on GST compliance.
Representatives from Young Indians also shared feedback on the recently conducted “GST Sahyogi” programme, under which the CGST Commissionerate trained 35 youths nominated by the business community to create a pool of local talent to assist small and medium enterprises in GST compliance.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Commissioner CGST S.K. Mahanta, who thanked the participants for their involvement and encouraged the business community to actively utilise the Grievance Redressal Committee as a platform for addressing GST-related issues in Nagaland.
