As part of GST Pakhwada (Fortnight) leading up to GST Day on July 1, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Dimapur, in collaboration with Business Association of Nagas (BAN), organised a GST workshop under the theme “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs” on Thursday at the CGST Office, Dimapur.
According to a press release, the workshop was conducted by Additional Commissioner CGST, Sashi Wapang Lanu. He spoke on key topics including GST registration, tax rates, return filing, and payments.
He cautioned participants about common mistakes by small businesses, such as not filing monthly returns after registration, which can result in penalties. He also explained that GST is a destination-based tax, meaning the state where goods are consumed receives the tax revenue.
He highlighted that Nagaland benefits from this system due to its high consumption rate and limited manufacturing.
He said GST forms 60-70% of the state’s own tax revenue, and urged entrepreneurs to register for GST once their annual turnover crosses Rs. 10 lakh.
A Q&A session followed the workshop, attended by over 30 women entrepreneurs from Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Peren and Niuland.
