Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN)

Lake View Colony celebrated its Golden Jubilee on Saturday under the theme “Peace & Wellbeing”, with Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir as the chief guest and associate professor of Counselling, OTS, Rev. Dr. Ellen Konyak Jamir, as the theme speaker at Assisi Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
Delivering his message, Supongmeren Jamir paid tribute to the pioneers and elders of the colony for their vision and sacrifice in establishing the colony. He also encouraged residents to carry forward the legacy of peace, unity, and development, stating that jubilee celebrations should not only mark milestones but also inspire renewed responsibility among citizens.
“Once we observe a jubilee, if we can truly take the jubilee blessings, we will have a prosperous journey ahead” he said, whilst urging parents to take responsibility for nurturing younger generation.
Jamir further called upon residents to guard against divisive forces and tribalism, which he said could disrupt unity of the colony. He highlighted the importance of “positive competitive” spirit, particularly during elections, to ensure emergence of capable and reasonable leaders, rather than those driven by money or muscle power.
Reflecting on his own election victory, the lone Lok Sabha MP said that despite being a relatively unknown figure, he was humbled by the people’s trust, which he described as a step towards “clean election” in the state, and expressed firm hope that the same spirit would continue in the 2028 elections.
The MP also commended the colony for maintaining peace and cooperation among residents.
He later spoke on various central government schemes and assured to do his best in serving the Naga people and the state.
Delivering the theme address, Rev. Dr. Ellen Konyak Jamir described it as a blessing to speak on “Peace and Wellbeing”. She said that jubilees were occasions to thank God for the past and to seek His blessings for a better future.
Citing John 14:27, she reminded that peace is a divine gift left by Jesus, and not a human creation. “If we have relation with God, we can experience peace”, she stated.
She stressed that peace must exist not only among people, but also with the environment, and that it should be cultivated as a way of life. “Peace is not merely a concept or idea, but a skill that can be practiced”, she said, adding that true wellbeing goes beyond physical health, and includes both mental and spiritual health.
Dr. Ellen further lamented that in Nagaland, people often focus only on physical health while neglecting mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Ending her speech, she urged residents to take collective responsibility in promoting peace and harmony and to be good stewards of their community.
Meanwhile, delivering a short speech, DMC Councillor H. Nikali Zhimo described jubilee celebration as not merely a milestone, but a testament to unity, faith, and hard work of colony’s residents. She also expressed deep gratitude to the pioneers and elders for their contribution, stating that Lake View Colony has grown not only in size but also in spirit.
“For a colony to thrive, it takes more than good roads and houses. It takes people who care for one another, stand together through challenges, and dream together for a better tomorrow” she added.
The councillor also encouraged youth to take pride in their community, become responsible citizens, and work toward a cleaner and more progressive colony.
She later expressed hope that the jubilee celebration would usher in new season of blessings, with more officers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and change-makers emerging from the colony.
DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, in his address, congratulated the residents on achieving 50 years of growth and unity, and acknowledged Lake View Colony as one of the few, among Dimapur’s 97 colonies, to have remained peaceful during his tenure as DC.
“Dimapur is a mini Nagaland where people from across the state and country reside. If we show unity here, it can serve as an example for the rest of the state”, he remarked.
The DC also urged residents and landowners to collaborate with DMC and Urban Development Department for proper town planning and to ensure adequate space for roads and drainage systems.
Also delivering a brief address, Rev. Dr. Wati Aier, called upon residents to reflect and pray on how the colony would look when it celebrates its centenary.
Emphasizing on inclusivity, he said the colony must remain a place that provides safety and security for all, including minorities, while staying mindful of environmental changes.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Topeni Chishi and Yarisangla Longkumer, invocation and scripture reading by principal, Assisi Hr. Sec. School, Sister Matilda Cutinha, and welcome address delivered by chairman, Lake View Colony, Tongzuk Pongen.
Short address on “My Colony, My Future”, was delivered by Meyimenla, history on the colony addressed by Abemo Patton, Jubilee Planning Report and presentation initiated by convenor, Lipok Yaden, while short speech was delivered by GB, Lake View Colony, Shilu Jamir.
