Hailstorm damages plants in Wokha

CorrespondentWokha, Apr 7 (NPN):

Wokha town witnessed a sudden spell of heavy rain accompanied by large hailstones between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, causing damage to kitchen gardens, flowers and plants.
Kitchen gardens with various vegetables were reportedly affected, with residents witnessing damage to their home-grown produce due to the intensity of the hailstones.
Farmers expressed concern as the hailstorm struck at a critical time when crops in the fields had just begun to germinate. However, the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed, as most cultivation areas are located away from residential settlements.
Many farmers said they would only be able to visit their fields on Wednesday morning to check the condition of their crops. The uncertainty has left them anxious, as hailstones can severely affect young and tender plants at the early stage of growth.
While damage to kitchen gardens has already been observed, the actual impact on larger fields remains unclear. Farmers remain hopeful that the damage may be minimal, but concerns persist until proper inspection is carried out.
