Global Hand-Washing Day was observed with students at Kin High School (KHS) under the theme “Clean hands- A recipe for health” on October 15.
The program was organised by PHED, Rural Division and sponsored by WSSO, PHED Nagaland, Kohima.
A press release from PHED(R) division, Dimapur O/o executive engineer stated that students enthusiastically participated in the observance, washing their hands with soap following proper hand washing methods lasting for at least 20 seconds every time.
Teacher, Zhovelu Tunyi, demonstrated the proper hand washing steps which involves scrubbing each finger and between them, rubbing the back of the hands and between the fingers, rubbing the base of thumbs, scrubbing nails and palms and rubbing the wrist, using soap and water.
Sanitation and hygiene consultant, DWSM, PHED (R) Dimapur Imojungla Longkumer, encouraged the students to adopt this healthy behaviour and spread the important message to homes and communities.
Soaps and bookmarks relevant to the occasion were distributed among the students to constantly remind them of the importance of hand washing with soap.
