Handicrafts from NE exhibited at Handloom Expo in New Delhi

National Handloom Expo, organized by Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (a Government of Nagaland undertaking) was inaugurated by Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi on February 7, 2025.


In her inaugural address, Dr. M. Beena, expressed happiness to witness the gaining popularity of handlooms products from Northeast. Mentioning that 60 percent of the weavers at the Handloom Haat, were from Northeastern states, Dr. M. Beena said such handloom expo would give the weavers an understanding of what the market and consumers were looking for and help them to cater to the choice of customers.


She said the materials produced in Northeast has a lot of export potential, and encouraged corporations, such as NHHDCL to engage more with the Handloom Export Promotion Council, to increase exports internationally.


Dr. M. Beena also said out that it was the right opportunity for the Northeastern states to showcase their handloom before the world and expressed confidence in the potential of handloom in the international market.


Prasielie Pienyu, chairman, Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Dimapur thanked the office of the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India for sponsoring the National Handloom Expo and expressed hope that more such national expos will be held in the future as well.


Wennyei Konyak, Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House New Delhi; Er. Y. Lipongse Thongtsar, Managing Director NHHDCL, officials from Ministry of Textiles, GoI, NHHDCL Dimapur and Nagaland House, New Delhi were among those present at the inaugural function. Altogether 80 stalls were set up and the expo will be continue till February 19, 2025. This was stated in a press release by PRO Nagaland House, New Delhi.
