Handloom expo inaugurated in Noklak

DIMAPUR: Superintendent of police, Noklak, Dr. Pritpal Kaur inaugurated district handloom expo, NHDP at public ground, Noklak on Friday.
According a DIPR report, speaking on the occasion as special guest, SP said Ellon-niu products (bags, shawl, waistcoat etc.) of the Khiamniungans were very unique.
She encouraged the gathering to get the products the geographical indicator tag and urged upon them to continue working hard and produce enough to create demands for Ellon-niu products in the market. The SP said this would empower the women and farmers and also uplift the economy.
While encouraging the womenfolk to take up handloom, Dr. Kaur also advised the menfolk to join handloom. She encouraged them to make use of social media for promotion and marketing and advised them to get a registered society in textiles department and get weaver’s card.
The SP also encouraged them to diversify the products through products such as bedsheets, pillow covers, curtains etc.
It was also informed that a training of digitisation of the same would be conducted in June at Noklak.
Meanwhile, functional manager, SDIC Noklak, P Nyeipa Phom and Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam president, Newkai also spoke during the occasion. The district handloom expo, NHDP is being organised by the directorate of Industries & Commerce and funded by development commissioner (handlooms), ministry of Textiles. The expo would continue till March 29.
