The 15th biennial general conference of Highway Area Sumi Student’s Union (HASSU), began on Thursday at Diphupar A local ground, Chumoukedima, under the theme “For a progressive future”, with professor & vice chancellor NU, SAS, Medziphema campus Dr. Akali Sema as chief guest.
Stressing on the theme, Dr. Akali said that the youths play a big role in building the future and encouraged them to take the bold step to reach the heights and said “What we do today, brings fruits in the future”.
Highlighting on the current drawbacks of the society, she noted that a social revolution was needed in the state which could only be initiated by the youth of today and also encouraged the youngsters to be wise while choosing the leaders.
Emphasizing on the importance of entrepreneurship among youths, she called upon the youths to be self-reliant, bring innovative ideas, identify problems and its solution, bring about positive influence to change one’s life and the society through embracing entrepreneurship. She also encouraged them not to depend only on government jobs and rather focus on sharpening skills than having more degrees.
Pointing on the data of business sector in Nagaland, Akali lamented that most of the business were taken by non-locals, since Nagas were focusing only on jobs, therefore, encouraged to dream big, grab every opportunity and take the first steps to achieve greater heights. She further encouraged the youths to be like Christ figure and not to grumble about not having opportunities, instead change perspective and engage in actions to build better tomorrow.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by HASSU finance secretary Anato Shohe and assembly secretary Atohito Aye, invocation by pastor Naga United Sumi Baptist Church Khehoyi Assumi, chairman Sumi Community Council Diphupar A Tosuho Shohe welcomed the gathering, president HASSU Holloka Zhimomi delivered presidential address, traditional song by Ikishe Village Sumi Student Union, traditional dance by Unity Village Sumi Student Union and benediction by pastor Purana Bazaar B Sumi Baptist Church Shikaho Kiba.
The programme also witnessed several traditional games competition for both boys and girls. The two-day event hosted by Diphupar A Sumi Student Union was attended by more than 500 members from 19 different units under HASSU and will culminate on December 15.
