High Court Bar Association Kohima (HCBAK) held its annual general meeting on September 15 at the Bar Room, High Court premises, Kohima.
Delivering the exhortation, Additional Advocate General of Nagaland, Imti Imsong stressed the importance of mutual respect within the legal fraternity, especially towards senior members. He reminded lawyers that reputation is their greatest asset and urged them to uphold ethical standards and professional decorum.
In his presidential address, Senior Advocate and HCBAK president, C.T. Jamir, recounted key activities of the Bar over the past year and reiterated the longstanding demand for the establishment of a separate High Court for Nagaland. He informed members that during the Chief Justice’s visit on August 26, 2025, HCBAK submitted a representation highlighting concerns over judicial appointments and the limited designation of Senior Advocates from the state. Jamir also updated members on the near completion of the new High Court building, with only a few quarters pending, and expressed hope for an early shift to the new premises.
The meeting emphasised the importance of the CMHIS health insurance card and approved the induction of two new members into the Bar. General Secretary Joshua Sheqi presented the annual report and encouraged junior members to remain united and cooperative. Other highlights included the Election Commission report by chairman Apok Pongener and a formal handing-over ceremony. The programme began with an invocation prayer by Ashipri Zho. The newly elected HCBAK executive members are: president: C.T. Jamir, Sr. Advocate; vice presidents: Anguto Sophie and Sharif Ahmed; general secretary: Joshua Sheqi; joint secretary: E. Thiba Phom; finance secretary: Nengsangliba Longkumer; treasurer: Yangtsapila Sangtam and property secretary: Pfosekho Pfote.
