Health deptt informs FBOs on packaged drinking water

Following the amendment of some regulations under Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has informed that the Food Business Operators (FBOs) manufacturing water would not need to obtain Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Certification Mark.

However, the department informed that they would have to mandatorily obtain Food Safety License Certificate through the online portal https://foscos.fssai.gov.in.

The department stated that water test report would be a mandatory document and the water needed to be tested in one of the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) notified laboratory having the scope of testing Packaged Drinking Water and Mineral Water.

The department informed that the bottle of the packaged drinking water should be legibly marked with these details: Name of the product; Name and address of the Manufacturer; Brand name, if any; Lot/Batch number; Date of processing/packaging; Best before date and FSSAI logo and license/registration certificate number.

For further assistance, one could visit the Food Safety Section, Chief Medical Officer’s Office of Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur. Failure to comply with the notification, the department said it would be a violation of Section 58 and 63 of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
