Health initiatives evaluated in Dimapur

DIMAPUR: District Task Force for Immunization and NVBDCP review meeting was held at the DC’s office conference hall on June 12, 2026 chaired by Imlijungla, EAC, Dimapur, who emphasized effective coordination among departments for smooth implementation of health programmes.
Dr. Sheila Longkumer, SMO, WHO, highlighted India’s continued polio‑free status while stressing vigilance as neighbouring countries still report cases. She noted Dimapur’s highest coverage during the March 2024 campaign with 76,133 children vaccinated, and outlined strategies for IPPI 2026 scheduled for June 28. She also reported on the ongoing measles outbreak in Purana Bazaar and adjoining colonies, with over 40 children affected, most unvaccinated. Intensive house‑to‑house vaccination and a Measles‑Rubella campaign were announced to ensure protection.
Dr. Rongsennungla, DPO RCH/UIP, highlighted Dimapur’s strong cold chain management system with 12 functional points, ensuring vaccine potency. She also detailed activities under the IDCF‑Stop Diarrhoea Campaign, including ORS‑Zinc distribution and awareness drives.
Rajesh Monsang, Project Officer, UNDP, spoke on HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention, noting its inclusion in India’s routine immunization this year. He emphasized early vaccination for adolescent girls and informed of a three‑month campaign launched with support from the District Education Officer.
Heanglih T Konyak, consultant NVBDCP, presented malaria elimination targets, with Dimapur aiming for zero indigenous cases by 2027. She stressed surveillance, early detection, and community participation through preventive measures. Dr. Avangla Saku, DPO CD‑I, added that daily fever case reports are uploaded online for continuous monitoring and timely interventions.
Chairperson Imlijungla urged allied departments to extend cooperation and support for effective implementation of health programmes. The meeting was attended by the CMO, Dy. CMO, District Education Officer, representatives from Muslim and Jain communities, and staff under CMO’s office.
