
One day “healthy lifestyle camp” under the national programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (NPCDCS) was held at CHC Jalukie, Peren District on January 13.
The camp was inaugurated by deputy commissioner, Peter Lichamo as the chief guest who said that the camp would be beneficial for the public.
He also said that since this camp was a continuous and ongoing programme, the facilities would now be provided in all the health units and urged the public to avail the service.
The DC also urged and requested the church and community leaders to help in disseminating information and awareness about the healthy lifestyle.
In a keynote address, medical specialist, Athibung PHC, Dr. Thangmang highlighted about diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cancer. He explained the types, the symptoms, complications, the risk factors and its treatment and for prevention and early diagnosis.
Chairing the programme, CMO Peren Dr.Ngangshimeren welcomed the members and said that the healthy lifestyle camp was one of the outreach programs under the NPCDCS.
He highlighted and briefed about the purpose and objective of the camp saying that the main aim of the camp was to promote healthy living and the risk factors and the expected outcome was to make the community aware and also intensify information on healthy lifestyle and to develop health seeking behaviour.
The invocation was said by Ao Baptist Church Jalukie, Pastor and deputy CMO Peren Dr. Tiala delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme was attended by the church pastors under Jalukie town, NGOs, Jalukie Town Women Welfare Association, media, HCMC members, community leaders, medical officers and health workers,
A total of 150 patients availed the services out of which 91 were screened for diabetes, 75 for body mass index, 91 test for blood sugar, 100 blood pressure, 27 counseling services on healthy lifestyle, 11 blood test for HIV, 15 dental procedure and 6 eye screening were done. Out of which 12 persons were diagnosed with diabetes and 15 hypertension cases.
Apart from free health checkups, distribution of free medicines, sensitization of public in the form of one to one and focus group discussions by the IEC personnel was also conducted.
Nutritional package was also given by CDPO Peren which was distributed to the patients.
