Heavy rain inundates colonies in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (NPN): Several residential areas across Dimapur were inundated following heavy rainfall in the early hours of Sunday, affecting normal life and causing waterlogging in low-lying localities.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation president, Zasivikho Zakiesato, said continuous rainfall during the morning hours led to flooding in a number of colonies, including Medical Colony, Vilhume Colony, New Field Gate areas, East Block of Burma Camp, Namgalong Colony, Ragailong Colony, SM Colony and Grace Colony, among others. He said that rainwater entered several residential compounds and houses, while roads and low-lying areas were submerged in many parts of the city.
However, Zasivikho maintained that the situation had improved significantly compared to previous years, when floodwaters often remained stagnant for long periods, causing extensive inconvenience to residents and damage to property.
According to him, the water level receded considerably within a short period after the rainfall, which he attributed to recent drainage clearance and desilting works carried out in various parts of Dimapur.
He said the recent clearance of clogged drains helped facilitate faster discharge of rainwater, reducing the extent and duration of flooding in several vulnerable areas.
