Heavy rains cause landslides in Bhandari and Merapani

DIMAPUR

Heavy rainfall on the night of June 17, 2025, triggered landslides and mud floods in Bhandari town, despite recent monsoon preparedness efforts.
According to DIPR report, authorities are working to clear roads, drainage systems, and other damaged infrastructure. Some private buildings and properties suffered partial damage due to the severe weather.
On the morning of June 18, a Bolero Pick-Up (NL05-G 0420) skidded off a landslide-hit road at Tsumang ward, Bhandari and plunged about 100 feet down. The owner, driver, and a woman passenger sustained injuries and were taken to Golaghat hospital.
Merapani Village Council reported flash floods in foothill areas, with the Marachu river overflowing. The main road and nearby areas were submerged, with water levels reaching over seven feet in some places. A 30-foot crack appeared in the main road, prompting an appeal for urgent repairs. ADC Bhandari urged residents to prevent waterlogging and potential health hazards, warning about outbreaks of waterborne diseases like malaria during the monsoon season.
