CorrespondentIMPHAL, Jul 10

Continuous heavy rains in the past few days triggered flash floods in Manipur’s Churachandpur district where many localities and villages were inundated on Thursday.
Reports said heavy rains in the last few days breached the danger mark of Khuga River and submerged villages along its banks.
Villages like Nengthawng Veng, Kerith Veng, Khanthang Veng, etc. were submerged under water, official reports said.
Several homes have been inundated, displacing residents, while large stretches of agricultural land were damaged, it added.
An inter village road (IVR) connecting the villages to Churachandpur town was completely submerged and at high risk of erosion, the official said.
Authorities have been alerted as the situation remains critical, it added.
On the other hand Tengnoupal district magistrate has also issued an advisory asking residents to “exercise extreme caution during and after heavy rainfall and to avoid travelling by night.”
The advisory stated that due to continuous heavy rainfall in the district, there was an increased risk of landslides and mudslides in the district.
Designated helpline numbers have also been issued to report any flood, landslides and emergency situation.
