Heavy vehicles restricted on NH-2

DIMAPUR, AUG 12 (NPN): District Magistrate Kohima has ordered restriction of heavy commercial vehicles bound for Manipur or Jakhama sub-division at Peducha under Sechu Zubza sub-division following continued road sinking and intermittent debris fall at the Phesama sinking zone along Kohima-Mao section of National Highway-2.
In an order, District Magistrate Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, stated that heavy vehicles would be released periodically from Peducha depending on the progress of restoration works and prevailing road conditions.
Kohima traffic police have been directed to deploy personnel at Peducha and other strategic points to enforce the restriction.
Manipur-bound heavy vehicles have been advised to take the alternate route through Peren district, in accordance with existing restrictions imposed by the Peren district authorities.
In emergencies, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads may be used.
Light motor vehicles would continue to be diverted through Phesama-Kisama-Kigwema route via Rhododendron Resort for two-way traffic. The alternate route is being maintained by the executive engineer, R&B South Division.
NHIDCL, PMU-Jakhama, has been directed to deploy maximum machinery and manpower and carry out restoration works daily from 6am at the sinking zone. The works would focus on continuous debris clearance and stabilisation of the affected stretch.
Pedestrians have also been advised to avoid crossing the affected landslide section for safety reasons.
