The Central Nagaland Women Association (CNWA) held its 1st General Conference at the Town Hall, Mokokchung, on May 30, under the theme “Raising Together Towards Progress”. The event was graced by advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu as the special guest.
In her address, Jakhalu emphasized the CNWA’s core values of Unity, Equality, and Progress. She noted that while Naga women enjoy certain levels of equality, full empowerment will only be achieved when women are part of decision-making processes. “We have shattered the glass ceiling,” she said, expressing confidence in the younger generation’s ability to lead alongside men in building a stronger society. Highlighting the role of women in fostering unity, she said women must take an active role in healing divisions and working for collective progress. On progress, she encouraged youth to embrace dignity of labor and seize the opportunities available to them in a dynamic society.
Touching on the point of ‘Unity’, she said that when the CNTC was formed with the three constituents, the three tribal constituents, the whole mothers were about solidarity, fraternity, brotherhood; to watch out for each other and to work together for the common good of the Nagas. Jakhalu stated that Naga society is not a stagnant society but a dynamic one where we evolve according to the dynamics. She added that children are our asset “We have to teach our children the dignity of labor”. With so many scopes and opportunities open to us, Naga youths should be able to grasp the opportunity in order to progress.
CNWA President K. Atoli Sema delivered the presidential address, while Watsu Mungdang and Ao Senden extended greetings. Reports were presented by the general secretary and finance secretary, and a new team of office bearers was nominated, led by Dr. Anungla Aier as President and Lily Sumi as general secretary. The conference concluded with folk performances by all three CNWA constituent tribes and a traditional attire showcase, celebrating unity in diversity.
