Hemavi to lead India at IFMA World Muaythai C’ship

DIMAPUR, JUN 15 (NPN): Nagaland’s distinguished Muaythai coach, Hemavi Ayemi of Shozukhu village, Dimapur, has been appointed to lead the Indian National Muaythai Team at the upcoming IFMA Senior World Muaythai Championship 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, scheduled from June 16 to 26.
This marks the fifth time Hemavi has been entrusted with the responsibility of coaching the national team at an international championship, reaffirming his stature as one of India’s foremost Muaythai coaches.
With over twelve years of experience as both an athlete and coach, Hemavi has played a pivotal role in shaping the sport’s growth in India. A former three-time National Muaythai Champion, he has mentored numerous athletes and produced several national champions from Nagaland. Currently serving as the National Senior Muaythai Team Coach for the 2025–2029 term under the United Muaythai Association India (UMAI), Hemavi has guided more than twenty Indian athletes to international medals, strengthening India’s presence in global Muaythai competitions.
His achievements include being honoured with the Best Coach Award at the East Asian Muaythai Championship 2023 in Hong Kong, a recognition of his dedication and excellence in coaching. His international coaching portfolio spans major events such as the IFMA World Championship 2023 in Thailand, the East Asian Muaythai Championships in Hong Kong in 2023 and 2024, and the Buddha Nilkantha International Fight Night in Nepal. Adding to his credentials, Hemavi is a 14th Khan Level Certified Coach under the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) and has recently completed the Muaythai Instructor Training Course in Pattaya, Thailand, conducted by the Sports Authority of Thailand.
Expressing gratitude for his appointment, Hemavi reaffirmed his commitment to helping Indian athletes achieve success at the world championship.
