Excise (Narcotic Cell) Friday raided a house at 6th Mile area Dimapur and seized 1.56 kg heroin worth Rs. Rs. 44,35,200 (market value) from the residence of Thozii Poutao.
Excise deputy commissioner (Narcotic Cell), S Chanlei Angh termed the seizure as “one amongst the biggest seizure of contraband drugs” in recent times.
Angh said based on “specific information” the Excise duty party raided the house of Thozii Poutao (38) son of Benjamin and seized the contraband.
During preliminary interrogation, Angh said the arrested person admitted to have smuggled the drugs to Dimapur from Manipur which was further meant to be sold off to “customers” from Rajasthan and Kolkata. Poutao also admitted to have been indulging in “drug business” for past three years.
Angh said a prima facie case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 has been established against the accused person. He said the accused along with relevant documents and preliminary reports was sent to the “higher authority” for further necessary actions. The seized items were kept in Excise Narcotic cell Malkhana, informed Angh.
