With a sudden outbreak of conjunctivitis (Eye Flu) across the Country, State Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has issued an advisory as cases were being reported in higher numbers.
In an advisory, principal director H&FW, Dr. Vibeituonuo M Sachu, stated that conjunctivitis or pink eye is an irritation or inflammation of the conjunctiva, which covers the white part of the eyeball.
Conjunctivitis, caused by allergies or a bacterial or viral infection, could be extremely contagious. It is spread by contact with eye secretions from someone who is infected.
Therefore, the department has advised all responsible to maintain good hygiene including washing hands and avoiding touching eyes with bare or unwashed hands. One must also avoid sharing personal belongings like towels, lenses or glasses. Surroundings should be cleaned properly.
