H&FW department clarifies on tobacco ban

DIMAPUR, JUN 17 (NPN): State health & family welfare (H&FW) department has issued a clarification regarding its June 2, 2026 notification prohibiting the manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.
The department stated that clarification was being issued to remove ambiguity over the interpretation and implementation of the notification.
The health department stated that the prohibition came into force with effect from June 2, 2026 and would remain in effect for one year until June 1, 2027.
Further, the department clarified that the ban specifically applies to food products containing tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients.
H&FW department also informed that food safety officials would be responsible for enforcing the prohibition within their respective jurisdictions in coordination with the district administration and police authorities.
