Department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) felicitated 51 health units under Kayakalp scheme at the award ceremony held at directorate of H&FW on Friday. The felicitation program for the Kayakalp awardees of the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 was graced by minister of H&FW, P. Paiwang Konyak as special guest.
Paiwang highlighted the significance of Kayakalp, an initiative under the National Health Mission launched by the Government of India, which was to recognize and incentivize “Exemplary Performances” in public hospitals.
He urged everyone in the healthcare sector to dedicate themselves to serve the people with utmost dedication and sacrifice. Kayakalp Program focuses on promoting cleanliness, hygiene, enhancing the quality of care, and implementing infection control practices in hospitals. Since its introduction in Nagaland in 2015-16, it has encouraged community involvement in health unit activities, with people contributing their time, resources, and efforts toward the improvement and upkeep of health facilities.
Paiwang praised the efforts of the 163 health units that were honored during the event, commending them for their remarkable contributions to public health. He also called upon all healthcare professionals and the community to continue working tirelessly to enhance the public health service, as health is a collective responsibility.
Among the 163 awardees, the Kayakalp Award for FY 2021-2022 in the DH category was received by Dimapur, Tuensang secured the second position, and Kiphire came in third. In the CHC category, Changtongya and Aboi were recognized as the first and second winners, respectively. Among the PHCs, Kuhuboto, Chunlikha, Sitimi, Longkhim, Phomching, Athibung, Chetheba, Chare, Chukitong, and Suruhoto received awards. In the HWC category, Longkong, Mhaninamtsi, Sekruzu, Pongidong, Naga United, Singapore, and Tangha were honored as the best Health and Wellness Centers. The Best Eco-Friendly Award was presented to IMDH Mokokchung.
For the year 2022-2023, Tuensang Civil Hospital received the Best DH Award, Aboi was recognized as the Best CHC, and PHC awards went to Pherima, Chunlikha, Likhimro, Chuchuyimlang, Changlangshu, Tenning, Ruzazho, Chessore, Nyiro, and Akuluto. Additional PHC winners included Mopungchuket, Bongkolong, Sekruzu, Changsu, Diphupar-B, Kisetong, Pongo, New Chingmei, Rusoma, Chishilimi, and Aopao. Tuensang Civil Hospital also secured the Best Eco-Friendly DH award, while several hospitals, CHCs, PHCs, and HWC-SC received commendation awards for their outstanding performances.
The program was chaired by Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton, director H&FW, welcome speech by Dr. Ritual Thurr. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Manyu Phom, and V. Kezo, Commissioner and Secretary of H&FW, shared a short speech. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tetseo, Director of Dental HFW.
New administrative office building of Drugs Control Administration and Drug Laboratory inaugurated
Minister of Health and Family Welfare P.Paiwang, Konyak inaugurated the office complex of Drug Control Administration cum Nagaland Drug Laboratory on October 6 in the presence V . Kezo, Commissioner & Secretary H&FW and Dr.Ritu Thurr, Principal Director, H&FW along with senior officers from the department.
Visato Yhoshu, Pastor of Union Baptist Church Kohima offered the dedicatory prayer for the building. The office was constructed under the Central Government Scheme of “Strengthening of State Drug Regulatory System” with a project cost of Rs.5 Crores.
The 1st Phase of the project which included the infrastructure of the Nagaland Drug Laboratory started in 2020 and completed in September 2023. The 2nd Phase of the project will be for the establishment of the Nagaland Drug Laboratory which was under active consideration of the Ministry for approval.
The Laboratory on establishment will have a capacity to test 1000 samples per annum. It will help in control of sub-standard medicines in the State and also assure quality medicines to the general public.
