In an effort to improvise health sector and deliver better healthcare services to the people, Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has been organising various programmes and activities across the state.
Phek: A training on “Climate Change and Human Health” was organised by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) under Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Phek office on April 20 at the Conference Hall of CMO Phek office.
The training was conducted for all the Medical Officers (MOs) so that health facilities would be prepared and managed any heat-related illnesses in the district.
In their presentations, resource persons, DSO, Dr. Shevo Hiese and epidemiologist, Dr. Limatoshi talked about the management of climate change, heat waves and heat alert among the vulnerable areas and groups.
They emphasised on management of heat-related stress, clinical symptoms and treatment, and also briefed the gathering on management of heat illness in vulnerable groups and emergency preparedness for health facilities.
The resource persons also gave a presentation on the monitoring, surveillance and reporting on heat related illnesses data on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) portal, which needed to be reported on daily basis.
In a separate event, a Reproductive & Child Health (RCH) outreach camp was also conducted on April 19 at Khomi Village by a medical team from District Hospital Phek (DHP).
During the camp, a total of 158 patients were examined out of which nine pregnant women were given Ante- Natal Check Up (ANC), 22 women were examined and 41 children were treated.
The camp was conducted by Dr. Pangertemsu (Obs & Gynaecologist), Dr. Seyiekhrietuo Rutsa (paediatrician); nurses and various categories of staff from DH, CMO office and HWC-SC Khomi led by DPO RCH/UIP Phek, Dr. Pewezo Khalo under the supervision of CMO Phek, Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino.
The team also carried out Interpersonal Education and Communication (IEC) activities with the target group and delivered health talks on maternal and child health issues.
The activities were conducted by Azenuo Mere DCM, Mezunuo Khesoh DPM QA and ASHA of Khomi village, which was supervised by Sede Rupreo, DPM NHM.
Wokha: A three-day district level training on Home Based Care for Young Child (HBYC) conducted by department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Wokha at the Conference Hall of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Wokha office concluded on Thursday.
A press release from CMO Wokha office stated that at the inaugural session, District Programme Officer (UIP/RCH) Wokha, Dr. Thungchanpeni Patton explained the concept of HBYC and said the training was crucial for the health workers in order to train the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) at block level and give them a proper hand holding. Patton said the main objective of HBYC training was to assist the mother and child during the crucial 3-15 months.
CMO Wokha, Dr. Zubenthung Kikon also welcomed the resource persons and trainees to the programme.
At the three-day training, sessions on introduction and rationale of home-based care for young child programme, roles and responsibilities of ASHAs in HBYC, planning for home visits, exclusive breastfeeding, complimentary feeding, iron folic acid supplementation, family planning, immunization for children, growth monitoring, group discussions etc. were taken by the resource persons.
The resource persons were programme manager (child health) department of H&FW, Benjong; state programme manager (community process), Chubala; consultant, Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Mokokchung, Sentila and GNM, UPHC Mokochung, Chubakatila. The trainees were district community mobilizer, community health officers and block ASHA coordinators from Wokha district.
