A high-level meeting to review COVID-19 preparedness in Nagaland was held on June 9 under the chairmanship of the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak, at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Anoop Kinchi, Director, Heads of Departments, and senior officials of the department.
The meeting assessed the current COVID-19 scenario in the state and evaluated the health system’s readiness to manage any emerging situation. The minister underlined the importance of continued vigilance, sustained surveillance, and the implementation of robust public health measures across all health units in the state.
Key points discussed at the meeting included:
The minister reviewed departmental preparedness in terms of manpower, availability of medicines and consumables, oxygen stock status, functionality of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs), surveillance operations, and overall readiness. Current Status: Based on available data, the prevailing strain of COVID-19 remains mild.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare is monitoring the situation on a daily basis.
Readiness Assurance: The department expressed confidence in its ability to handle any eventuality related to COVID-19.
Citizens have been urged not to panic, as the situation at the national level is not currently alarming.
Testing of all Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases and 5% of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) cases admitted to hospitals will be conducted in line with Government of India guidelines.
The public has been advised to continue following COVID-appropriate behaviour, including respiratory and hand hygiene.
