High-level team visits fire-damaged Nagaland House

DIMAPUR, JUN 23 (NPN): State chief minister Neiphiu Rio, accompanied by deputy chief ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton, advisor for school education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome and senior officials, visited Nagaland House in New Delhi on Tuesday to assess the damage caused by a fire outbreak.
The team inspected the site at Nagaland House, located at 29 Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
Resident Commissioner Abhijit Sinha and Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari briefed the chief minister and his entourage on the post-incident management and restoration efforts.
A fire broke out in Room No. 2 of the Main Guest House building on the morning of June 22, 2026. Three guests present in the building were safely evacuated with no injuries reported, and no lives were lost. Prompt action by guest house staff prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent areas until the fire brigade arrived and brought it under control.
Preliminary assessment suggests the fire may have originated near the split air conditioning unit above the sofa in the living room of Room No. 2.
In a social media post, Patton said the team reviewed the extent of the damage and received updates from officials. “I appreciate the prompt action of the fire and emergency services in containing the blaze and ensuring safety,” Patton said, adding necessary steps were being taken to assess the impact.
