The Department of Social Welfare officially inaugurated the newly installed highland toy train at Highland Park, Kohima, on Thursday in a ceremony marked by community spirit and renewed commitment to public recreation. Advisor to the Department, Wangpang Konyak, flagged off the train and addressed attendees as the special guest.
In his inaugural speech, Advisor Konyak emphasized the importance of creating inclusive recreational spaces, noting that such facilities should cater not only to children but also to senior citizens. He expressed gratitude to the sponsors and well-wishers whose contributions made the installation possible, and urged the public to actively utilize the park and government-supported amenities designed for their welfare.
The programme was chaired by Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Tosheli Zhimomi, who provided context on the initiative. She shared that the previous toy train had been damaged and thanks to the generous support of two Dimapur-based businesspersons and other well-wishers, the park now features a new toy train, two trampolines, and a merry-go-round.
It was announced that the toy train will operate on weekends specifically every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering families and visitors a new recreational option within the capital city.
The ceremony began with a dedicatory prayer led by State Chaplain of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Rev. Izieteilung Terieng. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by deputy director of the Department of Social Welfare, K. Wango Langsym.
