Cultural troupes from various tribes showcased their beautiful and lively dances on the 10th day of the 17th Hornbill Festival 2016 at Naga Heritage village, Kisama.
According to DIPR report, Kithagha Village Cultural Troupe (Rengma) presented a purification ceremony performed when any household is faced with serious illness adversities or hardship. Nsong Village Cultural Troupe (Zeliang) presented Nbumpuilim, the dance showcases two male mithun fighting each other. Kachari Cultural Troupe Purana Bazar (Dimapur) performed a dance by womenfolk dressed in colourful traditional costumes to resemble the maina bird.
Sangphur Village Cultural Troupe (Yimchunger)-Tsungkamneo Aneojikhi, a post harvest dance, during which the warrior declares the numbers of head he had hunted. Pholami Dzuvekro Cultural Troupe (Chakesang)-Nagamilizo, a folk song dedicated to Naga people calling on the good lord to deliver justice and self rule. Ekranipathar Village Cultural Troupe (Dimapur) Garo-Wangala dance, performed during the wangala harvest festival. Tuensang Village Cultural Troupe (Chang)-Phaang Pakbu, a demonstration of rituals performed to foretell the faith of a person or group prior to a hunting trip or battle.
Angangba Village Cultural Troupe (Sangtam)-jumurunyichi, dance performed by the forefathers in rhythmic steps such followed in sequence.
Phoyisha Range Cultural Troupe (Pochury)-Pfughatiyu Luchu, demonstrated the singing of a melodic harmonious song by male and female of similar age group. This song portrays the oneness and joy of working together as a group.
Pathso Noken Cultural Troupe (Khiamniungan) performed Jamhang, feast of merit given by wealthy men for the whole village, for 10 days in the month of February. Wokha Village Cultural Troupe (Lotha)- demonstrated chumpo (morung). It signifies the after dedication of the morung (dormitory). Mezoma Village Cultural Troupe (Angami) performed Somino. It is song and dance jointly performed in group by the elderly and youngster. Waromong Village Cultural Troupe (Ao) performed women’s peace initiative.
Chingdang Village Cultural Troupe (Konyak) performed “Sham Shu” (Beating of Log Drum). Yehemi Village Cultural Troupe (Sumi) performed ‘Aphilo Kuwo’. This dance is said to have been revealed through the spirit of a girl named Ili taken away by the spirit.
