Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) has expressed surprise over the statement issued by Kohima College Teachers Association (KCTA) with regard to Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio’s educational row. HRLN in a press release said when the matter is being investigated, “to call such a serious issue ‘petty mongering’ speaks volumes on the ignorance of the law”. It said, as teachers, their bounden duty was to stand on what is right and on the principles of education, taught to the younger generation.
HRLN pointed out that the FIR lodged in South Police Station, was by two senior citizens, who are public leaders with the social concern for such irregular practices. “The continuous tirade of clarifications issued by both the incumbent Principal and now the KCTA is highly questionable as the matter is expected to come up before the Court with the completion of the police investigation”, it added.
HRLN stated that only court would decide on the “so called baseless and fabricated allegations as alleged by the KCTA”. It reminded saying all are well aware that no degree certificate is issued in any educational institution without a formal written application from the student. However, HRLN said it was not done in the instant case, as a matter of privilege. “The bonus of such consideration was awarding the then sitting chief minister an extra degree of pol. since honours which he had not cleared”, it stated.
