WOKHA, OCT 9 (NPN): The inaugural Uphill Battle Tarmac 2026 and Northeast Championship 4.6 commenced at Nyiro Range Road, Wokha, on Friday, bringing together motorsport participants from Nagaland and other parts of the Northeast, with a total prize pool of Rs. 3 lakh.
Organised by the Headstrong Racing Club (HRC), Wokha, in association with the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC), the championship features a five-kilometre hill-climb course across three categories — SUV, Below 1300cc and Open. The course is divided into two stages of three kilometres and two kilometres.
EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan, attended the inaugural programme as the special guest and flagged off the event. He commended HRC for its perseverance in bringing the championship to fruition and acknowledged the contributions of participants and village authorities.
Highlighting the importance of time in motorsport, Sangmou observed that even fractions of a second could determine the outcome. He urged drivers to maintain discipline, compete fairly and uphold sportsmanship while prioritizing safety.
HRC adviser Mhao said the club was established in 2023 to promote motorsport in Wokha and provide opportunities for enthusiasts and aspiring drivers. He expressed gratitude to the district administration, community organisations, sponsors, volunteers and others who supported the event.
The programme was chaired by Lichithung Murry, while NAC adviser Peter Rutsa delivered the welcome address. Pastor Police Baptist Church, N. Zuben Ngullie pronounced the invocation and representatives of the Nyiro Range Youth Organisation also addressed the gathering.
Registration for the championship began on October 8, followed by the inaugural ceremony on October 9.
