Hindu Seva Samiti (HSS) and Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) have appealed to the Dimapur district administration to allow opening of New Market and Hazi Park Market in order to alleviate the plight of the traders in the two markets who were mostly from the Hindu and Muslim communities.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur by HSS president Gopal Sharma and MCD working president Ahidur Rahman.
Both HSS and MCH in the letter pointed out that closure of the two markets for over 120 days has affected more than 15000 family members of shopkeepers. They said the continued closure of markets has also made it “almost impossible” for the shopkeepers to meet their day to day expenses.
They also said that DMC administrator had already submitted the plan and guideline to open the two markets and therefore to allow opening of the two markets at the earliest in the light of DMC guidelines.
The signatories also said that businesses in other parts of the county have opened with certain guidelines and maintained that the two markets could be also allowed to open with strict guidelines as deemed fit by the administration.
HSS and MCD expressed the hope that the markets would open after July 15, 2020 adding further deferment could cause “unbearable situation” for the shopkeepers.
