WOKHA, JUL 15 (NPN): Residents of Humtso village on Wednesday carried out their annual community work of clearing pathways leading to cultivated fields, a customary practice handed down since the time of their forefathers.
As the harvest season approaches, villagers voluntarily clear overgrown bushes and repair footpaths connecting the village to farmlands, ensuring easier access for farmers during the busy harvesting period. The work, announced in advance by village leaders, saw participation from almost every household, reflecting the community’s tradition of collective responsibility and cooperation.
Carrying machetes, spades and other traditional tools, villagers worked side by side to clear the pathways. Traditional war cries echoed through the fields, adding spirit and enthusiasm to the occasion while honouring age old practices. After the work, participants shared home cooked food in a potluck meal, strengthening friendships and celebrating their collective effort.
Even as times change, the people of Humtso continue to preserve this tradition, recognising it not only as a practical necessity but also as a way of keeping alive the values of unity, cooperation and community that define the village’s heritage.
