I&C deptt, team Korea discuss ways to explore collaboration

DIMAPUR, MAY 28 (NPN)

State Industries & Commerce (I&C) department and a delegation from the Republic of Korea Wednesday held meeting to explore avenues for future collaboration between Nagaland and Korea in the fields of trade, investment, technology exchange and capacity building.
According to a DIPR report, the I&C department was led by advisor Industries & Commerce Hekani Jakhalu and director P. Tokugha Sema while Korean delegation was led by Sang Woo Lim, deputy chief of mission.
The meeting held at the directorate of industries & commerce, Kohima was also attended by other senior officials of the department. The discussions focused on opportunities in sectors such as agro-processing, handicrafts, textiles, human resources development, logistics and sustainable industries—areas where Nagaland holds unique strengths and Korea offers advanced technology and market linkages.
The importance of cultural and educational exchange was also emphasized, with particular interest in expanding Korean language education in Nagaland.
Speaking at the meet, Hekani Jakhalu emphasised the state government’s strong commitment to supporting investment and building partnerships. She said Nagaland has a lot of untapped potential in areas like agro-processing, handloom and handicrafts, organic farming, health sector and tourism.
Jakhalu stated that efforts could be made to attract both local and international partners, boost the economy, and create more job and skill-building opportunities for the youth of Nagaland.
Sang Woo Lim, expressed happiness and enthusiasm to be collaborating with the Government of Nagaland. Lim said that if he were to invest in India, Nagaland would be his preferred choice.
He reiterated Korea’s strong interest in engaging with Northeast India, particularly Nagaland, for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Highlighting Korea’s expertise in innovation and small and medium enterprise (SME) development and human Resource Development, he emphasized how these strengths could complement Nagaland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
I&C director welcomed the delegation and expressed his enthusiasm for building meaningful partnerships that could foster economic development and create employment opportunities for the youth of Nagaland. Both sides agreed to initiate follow-up discussions to identify concrete projects and areas of collaboration.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and fostering people-to-people and institutional connections.
