
ICAR Nagaland centre hosted the three-day long regional workshop on “water, millet, nutrition cultures” for strengthening emotional and cultural bonding with nature from August 26 to 28, organised by Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi.
A press release from ICAR Nagaland stated that, D J Rajkhowa, joint director, ICAR Nagaland Centre in the inaugural session briefed about the role of ICAR in conservation of indigenous traditional knowledge. Dr. Narendra Prakash, director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam, highlighted the different activities undertaken by ICAR and the importance of farmer’s wisdom and their participation in technology development process. Atul Jain, general secretary, Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi briefly spoke about the role and activities of Deendayal Research Institute and highlighted the purpose of conducting such programme. He praised the rich cultural value and diversity of North East region. Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam highlighted the importance of indigenous knowledge, indigenous crops and vegetables in the context of climate change.
Dr. A K Tripathi, director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati highlighted the value of cultural aspect of different communities in agricultural practices.
Archana Chitnis, ex-minister, Women and Child Development, MP, professor B S Somor, notable historian, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, director, ICAR- NRC Mithun, Dr. S V Ngachan former director ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam, delegates from Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi, Apollo Hospital New Delhi, Indian Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, scientists and researcher from ICAR Nagaland centre and ICAR-NRC Mithun, officials of KVK and official of various line departments participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Altogether 120 delegates from different organisations and farmers from Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya participated in the workshop. The programme was organised in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya and ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati, Assam.
