DIMAPUR: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur celebrated the 98th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) with farmers on July 16, highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in advancing agricultural research, education, and extension services.
The programme began with a welcome address by Senior Scientist-cum-Head, ICAR-KVK Dimapur, Dr. Phool Kumari, who reflected on ICAR’s 98-year journey and its contributions to transforming Indian agriculture through scientific innovation and farmer-centric initiatives. Farmers joined the live screening of the national-level ICAR Foundation Day celebrations, gaining insights into the latest achievements of ICAR. A training-cum-input distribution programme under CFLD on Oilseeds was also conducted.
During the technical session, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), Dr. Bendangla Imsong, delivered a lecture on scientific soybean cultivation practices, stressing quality seed selection, timely sowing, nutrient management, weed control and integrated pest and disease management.
To promote sustainable agriculture, a tree plantation drive was organized within the KVK premises. Additionally, 600 kgs of DSB-32 soybean seed and row markers were distributed to farmers from six villages, encouraging the adoption of improved cultivation practices for enhanced productivity.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with farmers interacting with scientists and expressing keen interest in adopting recommended technologies. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing ICAR’s commitment to empowering farming communities and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
