ICAR Nagaland centre conducts awareness programme

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Nagaland centre, Medziphema organised an awareness-cum-farmer-scientist interaction programme under the theme “adaptation and coping strategies to climate change for sustainable agriculture in Nagaland” at Kikruma village, Kikruma block, Phek on February 20 under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa project.

A press release from ICAR, Imtisenla Walling, technical officer, agro-met field units (AMFUs) Jharnapani chaired the programme and briefed the farmers about various activities provided under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa.

She also informed about the Meghdoot app, developed by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and ICAR, which provides location, crop and livestock specific weather based agro-advisories to the farmers. The app seamlessly aggregates contextualized agro-advisories at district level issued by AMFUs every Tuesday and Friday with forecast and historical weather data for the farmer’s benefits.

She further added that the app provides forecast relating to rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction which play a critical role in agricultural operations. 

Dr. Ph Romen Sharma, scientist also apprised the participants about different technologies developed by ICAR. Altogether 61 farmers attended the programme.
