A career guidance seminar was organized by ICFAI University, Saturday at its auditorium, 6th mile, Sovima, Dimapur.
Resource person of the seminar were YouthNet director Lezo Putsure, IT consultant with SeMT under the ministry of communication and technology Yanpvou Kikon and co-founder of Zatara tea Pvt. Ltd and Gorilla marketing, Nagaland Sonam Inoka Khulu.
Speaking at the programme, Lezo Putsure highlighted about Youth Net, which is based in Nagaland, formed in 2006, to bring positive energy and create optimism amongst the young people, connecting with youths from all parts of the state, country and beyond. He also mentioned about its activities and suggested the students about career before starting. Putsure further maintained that the numbers of graduates in Nagaland in the year 2011 there were 3658 graduates, 2012-3709, 2013-3755 and in 2014-7357. He said that the numbers of graduate has been increasing, adding to 72,415 unemployed youths where as there are 15,000 for 100 posts.
Focusing about entrepreneurship, he said that it is the lone way out to solve the problem of unemployment thereby he encouraged the students to start finding out who they are and be ready to take up the right decision. He also encouraged the students to be passionate, to learn to accept failure and to be creative.
Yanpvou Kikon also delivered a power presentation on how to choose a career. He mentioned that in today’s generation students never plan for the future but start following the crowd and being influence by others. In this regard they tend to accept the parents’ verdict by force and jump into any career with lack of motivation which often leads them to failure. He encouraged the students to discover “themselves” by exploring the options that he/ she have chosen and make a decision by evaluating the decision.
Kikon also mentioned about the availability of certain educational loan and schemes such as Vidya Lakshmi. He also maintained there were 13 banks and 22 educational loans/schemes and also loan scheme for single widow to access. He also mentioned the advantages of various types of jobs and about various exams.
Citing examples of successful entrepreneur, he said that an entrepreneur was action oriented, not theory oriented. He encouraged the students to be passionate so that impact and change would be brought. He asked the participants to be bold enough to struggle and work outside the state. “Never settle for the ordinary life, when God has made you to become extraordinary” he further quoted.
