Department of English, ICFAI University Nagaland conducted a talk on the topic “Recentering the ‘Centre’” with renowned author and poet Dr. Easterine Kire as the resource person on November 17.
A press release from ICFAI media cell stated that Kire raised concern on the idea of the “centre” and emphasized on the urgency of coming out from the oblivious notion of “mainstream”. She pointed out the issue of self-victimization saying “When you cling on to the victimhood you are holding a part of life while excluding the rest.”
Kire also highlighted that it was time that Nagas choose to be liberated and stop victimizing themselves, especially in terms of literary work, embrace the self and express it in literature as produced by Nagas.
She concluded by saying that there was a conscious effort in her recent works to put back the pride that comes from her cultural background.
Sentimenla Arong of MA English 3rd semester chaired the program and Dr. Temsurenla Ozukum moderated the discussion. The program started with Tokaholi Chishi of MA 3rd Semester’s reciting her poem “The Morning Song”. Note of thanks was delivered by HoD, Dr. Kevizonuo Kuolie.
