ICFAI Tripura hosts conference on nuclear physics and nuclear power

DIMAPUR, JUL 21 ( NPN): The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, The ICFAI University Tripura, is currently hosting the five-day National Conference on “Innovations in Nuclear Physics and its Application to Nuclear Power Generation (INP-NPG-2026)”, from July 20 to 24, at the University campus in collaboration with the Indian Nuclear Society (INS).
The conference aims to provide a national platform for scientists, academicians, industry experts, research scholars, and students to exchange ideas and deliberate on the latest developments and emerging trends in the field of nuclear science and technology.
The conference was inaugurated by distinguished guests including Dr. Subir Sen, Director (Technical), Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL); Prof. (Dr.) Biplab Halder, vice chancellor, The ICFAI University Tripura; Shri Kishor U. Agrawal, former associate director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Joint Secretary, Indian Nuclear Society, and Executive Director (Technical & Strategic), TENEX JSC; Dr. Debabrata Datta, former associate director (Safety), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and executive committee member, Indian Nuclear Society; Prof. Gautam Gangopadhyay, professor, Department of Physics, University of Calcutta; along with other University dignitaries including Dr. A. Ranganath, Registrar; Priyangshu Rana Borthakur, Dean, faculty of Science and Technology; and Prasenjit Bal, principal, ICFAI Science School.
The deliberations during the conference focus on several contemporary themes, including recent advances in nuclear physics, innovations in nuclear power generation, advanced reactor technologies, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety and security, radiation technologies, and the growing applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in nuclear science and engineering.
The event has witnessed participation from leading researchers, experts from premier research institutions, universities, nuclear industries, and policymakers from across the country. The five-day conference features keynote lectures by renowned experts, and the top three Best Oral Presentation Awards will be presented to outstanding participants.
The conference is being convened by Dr. Arunabha Saha, Convener, INP-NPG-2026 and assistant professor, Department of Physics, The ICFAI University Tripura. It is being coordinated by Dr. Camelia Das, Head, department of Physics, with Dr. Dipayan Chattopadhyay serving as the organizing secretary.
