
ICFAI University, department of History, organized a talk on “Problems and prospects of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution” on February 1, with Dr. Vulli Dhanaraju, assistant professor of History, Assam University as the guest speaker.
A press release from ICFAI University Nagaland media cell stated that Dr. Vulli discussed the historical creation and relevance of the Sixth Schedule. He said that the basic philosophy behind its creation was to provide autonomy, integration and development for the North Eastern states.
Stating that this provision was initially implemented to address the political aspirations of the Naga people, Dr. Vullie pointed out that with the refusal of Nagas to accept the proposed schedule, Article 371(A) was created for the Nagas. He also highlighted the importance of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and its impact on the North Eastern states.
Dr. Vulli also donated two books to the ICFAI library. The talk was chaired by Dr. Resenmenla Longchar, HoD and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Khrienuo.
