The annual medical camp under the aegis of IDEAL (IW) Charitable Society was conducted on July 1 at Bright Morning Star Children Home (BMSCH), Kohima, where children were highlighted on diet and nutrition, and HIV and AIDS.
A press release by BMSCH Kohima stated that M.O (Mobile Medical Unit), Dr. Zubenthung T Khuvung and Mobile Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (MICTC) counsellor, Ayangla were the resource persons of the medical camp.
During the camp, Dr. Zubenthung spoke on the topic diet and nutrition and its importance and cautioned against taking nutrition deficiencies very lightly.
“Many people take nutrition deficiencies very lightly. However, if we don’t take proper diet and precautions it can lead to various health issues” said Dr. Zubenthung.
Sensitising the students on HIV and AIDS, Ayangla briefed them about the four root causes of HIV AIDS transmission and urged the children not to indulge in any sexual intimacy till they were married. She also warned that indulging in other substances such as drugs and sharing needles has high chances of getting infected by the virus.
A health check-up was conducted wherein children from home including some children from the neighbourhood were tested for HIV and Hepatitis.
The programme was chaired by Watisenla; word of acknowledgment and concluding remark was delivered by superintendent BMSCH, Alenuo Angani while special number was presented by BMS children.
