Jal Jeveen Mission (JJM), Implementation Support Agency-(ISA)- Alongphi Welfare Society (NGO) Tuensang division conducted Information Education and Communication (IEC) and water quality awareness drive on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) under Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Tuensang division from November 22-December 13 covering 23 villages from Chare block, Longkhim block, Chesore block and Shamator block respectively.
In a press release, Alongphi welfare society informed that the activities were as per fund released from the sanitation & WSSO PHED Nagaland, Kohima.
The ISA team visited all three phases of JJM implementing villages such as post-implementation villages (JMM completed villages), implementation villages (JJM ongoing villages) and pre-implementation villages (yet to start JJM scheme).
In the exercise, ISA facilitated key agendas including constitution of gram panchayat and WATSAN committee where women representation in the villages was also encouraged, continued water quality checking through FTK user and to upload it on the WQMIS by WQMS five women in the village level.
The participants were also briefed on the community participation and contribution of 5% in form of cash, labour in the overall estimated cost.
In the IEC exercise, Er. Lanu Chessore–Shamator block, and JE Chare block Toma also collaborated along with the ISA team in the exercise.
The team stressed on how Operation and maintenance (O&M) was important in maintaining sustainability of completed schemes.
ISA emphasised on how every new household should have its own latrine and ODF with running water.
Since SBM (2) phase was targeted at every household and that the villages should be declared ODF plus by 2024, the team advised them to manage grey water from kitchen and toilet.
It also advised villagers to pass resolutions on total ban of single use plastics and burning of plastics. ISA also advised Gram panchayat to invest FFC fund in the sanitation to collaborate with the SBM (II) targets.
