Inspector General Assam Rifles (IGAR (North), Major General Vikas Lakhera flagged off the much awaited construction work of a helipad at Ruzazho village in Phek district on December 20.
A press release from the defence stated that the flagging off ceremony was witnessed by Brigadier Herjinder Singh, Commander 5 Sector Assam Rifles, Colonel Umesh Sati, Commandant 1st Assam Rifles and Sanjay Tandan, Commandant 111 BSF Battalion. Dr Er Vekho Swuro, Sesato Swuro, VCC Ruzazho, VCCs from neighbouring villages.
The helipad, once constructed will not only increase the options for tourism in the village, but will also help the villagers of all nearby villages in need of an emergent medical evacuation, the release stated.
In his speech, Major General Lakhera thanked the almighty and the villagers for giving him opportunity to be a part of them. He also extended Christmas greetings and assured to conduct medical camp in the village in the coming days. On the occasion evangelist Powuyi Swuro ex DB area administrator Indian National Army, who will be celebrating 104 birthday on December 24 was felicitated. Major General Lakhera also visited the Morung at Ruzazho village where Subhash Chandra Bose had stayed for nine days.
The release stated that Ruzazho village holds a special significance in the history as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose stayed in the village for nine days during World War II. It was also known as the first Azad Hind Sarkar administered village in India.
