Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front (IIYF) has acknowledged Zunheboto chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Akaho Sema and his subordinates for speedily redressing public grievances raised by the front pertaining to negligence and absenteeism of healthcare workers at Satoi primary health centre (PHC) in Zunheboto district during an emergency recently.
Following an accident between Itovi and Ikiye on February 20 involving a Tata Sumo that left three persons seriously injured and another with minor injuries, the front alleged that entire staff of PHC was absent barring one, who too failed to properly attend the patients, following which they were shifted to Zunheboto for better treatment. It had also set a 24-hour deadline for the health & family welfare (H&FW) directorate and CMO on February 22 to take necessary action.
IIYF president Kavi Awomi and general secretary Abel Achumi in a release stated that the CMO had informed them on Monday that he had issued directive to healthcare workers of the PHC to reach their work station on Sunday evening.
He, thereafter, inspected the PHC on Monday along with his subordinate staff to check the status and initiated necessary measures in response to the call of IIYF, the release added.
Pointing out that Satoi area was one of the remotest places in Nagaland with very little development that often resulted in incidents like the one witnessed on February 20 wherein people of the area could not avail basic healthcare service even during the time of emergency, IIYF appealed to H&FW to provide at least one ambulance at Satoi PHC in public interest on an urgent basis, besides providing necessary medical equipment as per requirement. The front assured full cooperation to all departments in the interest of public welfare.
