IIYF sets 24-hr deadline for H&FW directorate, CMO

Following an accident on Saturday where four persons were injured, two in serious condition, Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front (IIYF) said it was shocked to learn about the pathetic condition of Satoi primary health centre (PHC) when the injured were rushed to the PHC for medical aid.

IIYF president Kavi Awomi said three persons including the pastor (who was unconscious for about an hour) and pastoress of Itovi village, were seriously injured and another person sustained minor injuries when the Tata Sumo vehicle they were travelling met with an accident between Itovi and Ikiye village in Satoi area around 2 p.m. on Saturday.  When the injured were rushed to Satoi PHC, IIYF said it was shocked to learn that no healthcare worker like doctor or nurse was present barring one lady who it alleged was a proxy in-charge.

The youth body alleged that not even Wokadine was available at the PHC to stop constant bleeding of the patients and that only a single dose of tetanus toxoid (TT) injection was given in the name of first aid. Thereafter, as the patients were serious, they were shifted to Zunheboto for better treatment, IIYF said.

Dismayed by the state of affairs at the PHC, IIYF served a 24-hour deadline on the Health & Family Welfare directorate and Zunheboto chief medical officer (CMO) from the date of publication of their demand to initiate stern action against all erring healthcare workers of Satoi PHC under Satakha sub-division in Zunheboto district, make necessary arrangements for posting medical staff and providing medical equipment at the PHC and carry out physical inspection of the centre.

IIYF also urged EAC Satoi block to look into the matter in public interest. The youth body warned that in the event of failure to meet the demands, IIYF would leave no stone unturned and initiate strict legal action against the department concerned, declaring that the youth body should not be held responsible of any consequences.
