Ikishe Village in Dimapur district displayed a united effort for their village’s development with the village households and the Village Council jointly contributing to building the long needed village council hall that was inaugurated on October 15 by special guest District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA), project director, Atokhe Aye.
The Village Council along with the village households donated their Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) job card payment and grant-in-aid towards the construction of the council hall which came to an amount of Rs. 11,63,600. The special guest, while lauding the transparency and good governance displayed by the village, reminded them that the Rural Development department was a department for the people. It will do its part, he said, adding that likewise the villages should extend their cooperation.
The project director remarked that through the display of good governance, the village had made a created a mark for itself in society for others to follow.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Chumukedima block, Yamao Konyak cautioned village councils that the department was aware which villages utilise funds judiciously and which ones do not. It is also aware which villages were working in cooperation, he said.
The BDO said he was happy with, and encouraged by, the achievement and cooperation displayed by Ikishe village. Konyak said he could not bring development alone as a BDO, but he could only act as a middleman. Development of a village depends on the village maintaining transparency and cooperation, he asserted.
The program was chaired by IVC chairman Dr. Kheshito Zhimo and the dedicatory prayer was pronounced by the pastor, Ahoto Chophi. The Village Development Board report was presented by Women VDB secretary. Sentinaro Kinimi.
