In a joint operation, Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police on Friday intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of illegal foreign-origin cigarettes valued at Rs.1.29 crore in Tening area of Peren district. According to Assam Rifles sources, the operation was part of ongoing efforts by security forces and state police to curb the inflow of contraband into Nagaland, which poses risks to public health, undermines local markets, and results in loss of government revenue.
The coordinated action between Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police was lauded as a commendable example of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining law and order and safeguarding public interest. The seized consignment has been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action.
