In a startling development, a Santro car bearing registration number (AS23F5012) was found transporting a large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) near First Cry, Wokha, at approximately 9:26 a.m. on Thursday.
Reportedly, the vehicle was fully packed with IMFL and concealed under a blanket. The incident came to light when two cartons of liquor accidentally fell onto the highway. The driver and co-passenger swiftly retrieved the bottles and reloaded them into the car. When approached for comments, the occupants refused to respond and fled the scene.
Following the report, Wokha Police dispatched a team to investigate the matter. Subsequently, two individuals — Jenio Ezung (19) and Imran Hussian (23) — were apprehended for transporting assorted IMFL in the same vehicle. A substantial quantity of liquor was seized, including brands such as AC Black, MC Rum, IconiQ Whisky, Blenders Pride, Signature Whiskey, Budweiser, Calendar Rum, Contessa Rum and Breezer.
A case has been registered at Wokha Police Station in connection with the incident.
The episode has sparked public concern over the illegal movement and sale of liquor in Wokha district.
Citizens have called for stricter enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act (NLTP Act), under which the sale and consumption of alcohol remain banned in the state.
